Phoenixfire: A paranormal reverse harem romance (The Rogue Witch Book 8) Page 17
“Whatever you want,” he said seriously.
“It’s a ticking time bomb. The longer we leave it, the more likely it is that the witches will send more hunters after us. We’re giving them time to recover and rebuild, to consolidate their power. We can’t let that happen.” I knew it in my gut. This was what we needed to do. Music, our lives, had to be put on pause. It thrummed in my veins. We needed this.
“You know that if you go back there, face them down,” Craig said, his face drawn and serious, “you’re risking yourselves. It’s a death sentence. The Llewellyn family is going to want to see you all dead, every single one of you. You robbed them of their power, their status. They’re not going to forget that, or forgive. And that’s just them. There are the other remaining survivors. I don’t know how many families are connected to the council, but you’ll also be facing all those who didn’t have a seat.”
We exchanged quick looks, and I let out a shuddery breath.
“We need to do this,” I said. “We need to end this. We didn’t start this fight, they did, and I’m not going to keep running away. Enough of that.” I gave a decisive nod of my head, and felt Eli’s hand curling around my shoulder.
“We can stay here, move to Paris. Live a good life eating brie and baguettes,” he murmured.
“No,” Finn cut in. “I’m not running anymore. I want my pack, my woman, and whatever pups we have in the future to be born in our home country, surrounded by our people.” His eyes flickered with passion as he gazed at me. “I’m ready to fight, no matter what it costs us.”
“What’s the point if it costs your lives, though?” Craig pointed out, “You’d lose everything you loved.”
Finn cracked a wild smile, the bravado rolling off of him.
“Oh, those bastards haven’t seen anything yet,” he promised. “We burned down their little sanctuary, and left them broken and half dead. Now it’s time to finish the job.”
The fear that had been nipping at my heels twisted and climbed up my legs, shuddering through my body.
We were going home. Home to die, maybe. But we needed to take my father and what was left of the witch’s council out, tear the rot out by the root, and burn it all down. If it was the last thing I did, with my very final breath, I’d see them pay for Max’s death. For all of the deaths of the wolves who had gone before us. I’d see the righteous fury of my power rain down on them. They’d regret ever trying to tear me down. They’d regret ever coming for me and mine.
They’d regret it until they couldn’t regret anymore.

They are everything and she is nothing. She doesn't belong, and they're going to make sure she knows it.
Mia Quinn never asked for her mom to get thrown in jail. She never asked to get shipped off to her uncle's, and be enrolled as Hidden River Academy's newest charity case. But she's going to make the best of it, even though the students drive Range Rovers and Lambos, and she's never even had a bike to call her own.
She figures she'll keep her head down, study hard, and be back at the trailer park with her mom in a few months time.
Except the guys, and girls, of Hidden River Academy know when someone doesn't belong, and Mia Quinn? Doesn't belong. They've got a plan to get rid of this new upstart who's crashing their rich-kid party. If she doesn't go on her own, they're going to make her. The first person to want her gone? Buck Barron, star football player at HRA, currently living with Mia's uncle while his parents are MIA on a globetrotting trip. He doesn't appreciate Mia crashing "guy time" at home, and Mia knows it.
To most students at HRA, Buck, Colt, Shawn, Reid, and Cael are the most popular students in the whole school. But to Mia? They are equal parts nightmare and bullies. Happy New Year
So wow, depression is a thing? It sneaks up on you and grabs you by the shoulders, shaking you until you want to beg it to stop.
This year, 2019 that is, was the year that depression tried to steal everything good in my life and burn it down in flames. Some days I’m not sure how I’m still here, but… here I am.
I’m sorry this took so long. Writing this book felt like digging myself out of a grave, and I hated it. I hated it so much that I ended up ripping most of it up, and not writing for months on end. I don’t think I’ve ever felt more worse to let you down, and I’m sorry for that.
I’m sorry I let you down, and that you had to wait for me to sort my head out to get the words out of there and onto the paper.
As I was writing Phoenixfire I realized why I hated it so much - there was just so many threads of the story that I was trying to tie up in one book, and Darcy was begging me to not end it yet. She still had more to say. She was still hurting about Max. She was just… hurting, and so was I. So I split things up. Phoenixcry rides again. One more book, and then it’s over. I can’t wait to share that last book with you.
I hope 2020 is all you dream it to be, and that you have good health, mental well-being, and happiness.
